The Georgia Master Gardener Volunteer Program is a volunteer training program offered through county offices of the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension Service. Through this program, individuals are trained and certified in horticulture and related areas. These individuals, in turn, volunteer their expertise and services, under the direction of their County Extension Agent, to help others through horticultural projects that benefit the community. Master Gardeners bring the latest horticultural information and practices from the world of research to their communities’ landscapes and gardens. Further information about this statewide program is available at http://extension.caes.uga.edu/mastergardener

Northeast Georgia Master Gardeners, Inc is an affiliate of the Georgia Master Gardener Volunteer Program of the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension service.  We meet on the third Tuesday of each month @ 5:30pm at the Hart Co. Learning Center, 150 Benson St. Hartwell, GA.

The Northeast Georgia Master Gardeners  was organized in 1997.  Our members represent master gardeners from Hart, Elbert and Franklin counties.  The members have been dedicated to the concept of developing a botanical garden for the enjoyment of the region's citizens and visitors. Our members have been putting in lots of time and hard work on this project and it is coming along nicely. Please see additional pages for photos and information.

We provide support for local 4H projects.  We have helped establish and maintain the Pam Rapp Garden at the Hartcare Center in Hartwell as well as the Butterfly Garden at North Hart Elementary School. We also have an ongoing bluebird habitat program at the Hart Co. Botanical Gardens and at the Cateechee Golf Course.  Each spring we have a plant sale which raises funds for these projects and we look forward to seeing you there.

In 1997, Anne King was a member of the first class of Master Gardeners in Hart County. She had a vision for us.  We would build a botanical garden for the enjoyment of the citizens and visitors to Hart County.  It would also be an outdoor classroom for the study of plants and trees in our area for the use of area schools, the FFA and 4-H organizations.
Anne King served as the secretary of the Hart County Extension Office for 31 years.  She did not live to see her vision completed but she was able to see its commencement.  To honor Anne's memory and to celebrate her vision we have dedicated an area of the Hart County Botanical Garden to be known as the Anne King Memorial Garden.
